GDI Haiti Effort

haitiLady VP Cora O'Kelley was nestled in her home office with President Donald Blount and GDI's team member Devan Powe working on last minute Heritage Ball 2010 details. Her cell phone rang. The caller said something like this, "Hello Cora, this is Monte. I am troubled by the news of Haiti and I know Good Deeds International is about providing service to others, right?" Lady VP responded, "Yes, of course and we share your devastation." Monte went on to say, "I want to challenge GDI to raise $500 for the victims in Haiti and I will match it dollar for dollar from my own personal money—I may be able to raise even more." An hour later, Monte phoned her again and advised he had raised $2,000 and now the challenge had been increased. (Monte Fowler is an Atlanta stepper and Vice President of Operations of Starr and Associates. He and his President, Jamal Starr, are each willing to match up to a $1000 donation to this cause.)

Loving, Giving, Sharing and Caring During The Holidays 2009

Good Deeds International (GDI), LLC, took time out during the Holiday Season 2009 to share and bring good cheer to friends of the local Atlanta community. It is such a blessing to be able to “give back” and during the Thanksgiving season, GDI reached out to deliver Thanksgiving Baskets to families both in and outside of our steppers’ community.

Debra Montgomery, an Atlanta Stepper, and a breast cancer survivor who has been going through her chemo and radiation treatments lately, welcomed our request to deliver her a “little care package” the week before Thanksgiving. President and Vice President Donald Blount and Cora O’Kelley was pleased to stop by on behalf of GDI and share some holiday cheer with Debra and her family. She is looking and feeling very well and we are wishing her a speedy recovery. Debra is one of our own and we will continue to keep to check on her from time to time and keep her in our prayers. Kim Davis and Cheryl Powe also made a related request and visit to another family of South Atlanta.

Similarly for Christmas, we decided to help Hosea Feed The Hungry. This organization is always a great outlet to donate food items as they serve thousands of Atlanta’s families in need during the holiday season. Turkeys with all the trimmings were delivered to this outstanding organization by GDI team member Kirk Pacley just in time for Christmas Dinner!

The blessing is in the loving, giving and sharing. The “Good Deeds” are simply because we care.

GDI's continued quest to reach out to the community sharing "Good Deeds" took on a new sweet flavor Friday, October 30, as they showered the after school care kids of the Y with many great choices of Halloween treats.  Even some of the staff, after school teachers and parents took part in sharing the delectable little sticky, oowey, gooey pieces of double bubble, hershey kisses, sweet tarts, candy corn, toostie rolls, sugar daddys and the list goes on and on.

Good Deeds by Arif

And thou I bestow all my good to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

I Corinthians (ch. XIII, v. 3).

ARIF1

On Friday, September 11, 2009, Good Deeds International, LLC, held a fish fry to help fund our annual Heritage Ball event.  This day started with very little thought except our hopes and prayers that we would be successful in raising enough capital to assist in providing like minded people to gather for common interests.  Little did we know that the day would bring joy?

GDI wants to let the world know we have a “Prince Among Men” standing aside us.  This Prince, without the fanfare, placed an order to go for 15 hot fish dinners.  Most of us thought nothing of it, but were pleased for such a large order.  We assumed that he was taking it back to work for his coworkers.  After friendly conversation, we learned that this, the biggest order of the day would be for those less fortunate.  Arif Fahim simply said “I’m not going back to work, I’m donating this to the homeless”.  Arif then momentarily greeted all who were there, gathered his order and left.
